FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a science-backed therapy that is particularly helpful for people with autism and other developmental needs. It is the most common therapy for autism in the United States in which a learner works with a therapist one-on-one. ABA therapy breaks down the ways individuals learn and behave, then uses that understanding to develop new abilities and get beyond challenges.
What is Mindfulness-based ABA therapy?
- Mindfulness-based ABA fosters behavioral flexibility by teaching skills like patience, openness and calm responsiveness. With this emotional regulation, clients become more receptive to learning new, functional skills that help[ them thrive. This approach involves a third-wave integration, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Training (ACT), training in Relational Frame Theory (RFT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Skills Training as appropriate for each client.
What is Autism?
Autism is a complex, developmental condition that may impact a person’s communication between others, different ways of learning, and self-regulation. A person may learn differently and ABA therapy is a tool to help support the individual’s way of learning.
How does ABA therapy work?
Before ABA therapy begins, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) conducts assessments and interviews to gather detailed information about the learner’s strengths, challenges, and current skill levels. Using this information, the BCBA creates a personalized therapy plan, breaking down skills into achievable and teachable targets. We'll then work directly with the learner to implement the plan, ensuring that the family has proper guidance and support.
Do you provide in-home as well as center-based ABA services?
Yes we do!
Having a center gives you a dedicated, structured environment that's set up specifically for learning and growth that may not be feasible at home. Plus, this gives families a break and ensures consistent, distraction-free sessions.
In-home services complement this by addressing real-life routines and environments. The combination can ofer well-rounded learning-structured in the center, personalized at home.
How is ABA therapy helpful?
ABA therapy helps children and adults with disabilities learn and strengthen skills in:
-
Communication: Helping learners express their needs effectively while also understanding communication from others.
-
Social Interaction: Building enjoyable and meaningful social connections tailored to the learner’s preferences.
-
Daily Living: Enhancing self-care abilities and fostering greater independence.
-
Safety and Behavior Management: Reducing behaviors that may pose risks to the learner or others, such as self-harm or aggression.
-
School readiness: Practicing imitation, matching, and categorizing
-
Behavior support: Reducing aggression, self-injury, and property destruction by teaching safer alternatives
-
Social skills: Learning to play, take turns, and hold conversations
-
Self-care: Building independence with routines like handwashing or cleaning up
How much ABA is needed per week?
Direct therapy hours are determined by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who recommends the clinical hours based off of research-proven assessments. These assessments include direct observations, meeting with caregivers, and data analysis.
Is ABA therapy covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans cover ABA therapy, especially for children diagnosed with autism. We can help verify your insurance benefits and work with you to explore payment options if needed. Please contact us to discuss your specific insurance coverage. We currently accept BCBS of Texas and Aetna. We will be accepting Texas Medicaid, Humana, Tricare, Cigna and United HealthCare. If you do not have insurance, I can work with you on a sliding scale according to your income.
